Dowels Are Not Created Equally - Use Our Premium Pins For The Strongest Joints!

Dowel joinery is one of the strongest and widely used construction methods available to woodworkers. It's a popular method for joining two workpieces where added strength is desirable. The dowel (a round piece of pre-cut wood) is inserted into a mating hole that is usually drilled with the help of a jig. Some woodworkers use dowels in place of mortise & tenon joints because they are often faster and easier to accomplish.

The dowels you choose for your project are just as important as the jig you use. Made in the USA from birch and beech lumber, our multi-grooved dowel pins are the finest quality available. The multi-groove design allows excess glue to escape the joint preventing possible blowout on the side panels, and it lets air escape to prevent hydraulic lock. Make sure to use dowels that are consistent in diameter and checked for moisture content. Our premium quality dowel pins are checked to be within .005" diameter and contain between 6% and 8% moisture to give your projects to most consistent dowel joints possible.

What length dowel pin is the best for your job? The length of the dowel is usually determined by how much dowel can be inserted into the shortest member of the two-piece joint. For example, if your shortest member is 1" thick and your safest drilling depth is 3/4", then a 1-1/2" long dowel should be used because this is twice the 3/4" thickness. Longer dowel pins have greater holding power.

What diameter dowel pin is the best for your job? The diameter of the dowel should be no greater than half the thickness of your stock. So if your side panel is 1" thick your dowel pin would not be more than 1/2" diameter. Your dowel pin should fit its hole snugly to produce a superior joint.

Abigail V. ★★★★★

Pulled out of the box and they're perfectly straight, no warping or rough grain to fight with. The snug fit means my joints line up true every time, and the wood has a clean, dense feel that holds the glue beautifully.

Andrew L. ★★★★★

The dowels fit so snugly into my drilled holes that I barely needed any glue, and the joints on this bookshelf feel rock solid. Having a hundred in a pack means I can keep building without running to the hardware store.

Nicholas ★★★★★

I've built three frames and a workbench with these so far, and every single joint has come out rock solid with zero split pins. The uniformity of the diameter means my glue-ups line up perfectly without any wrestling.
