TransTint Dyes

When color accuracy, consistency, and professional-grade results are essential, craftsmen choose TransTint concentrated wood dyes.

TransTint liquid dyes are high-performance, ultra-concentrated colorants formulated to mix effortlessly with a wide range of bases. Ideal for woodworkers, finishers, and luthiers, these versatile dyes blend smoothly into water, alcohol, lacquer, shellac, and clear finishes, allowing precise control over custom stains and toners. The low-viscosity formula pours easily, mixes uniformly, and delivers exceptional grain definition with rich, even color saturation.

Unlike conventional wood stains, TransTint penetrating dyes soak deeply into the wood fibers, enhancing natural grain patterns rather than obscuring them. With an extensive selection of vibrant, fade-resistant hues, TransTint is trusted by professionals for fine furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments, architectural millwork, and restoration projects.

From bold, custom color blends to subtle tone adjustments between finish coats, TransTint wood dyes provide the flexibility, depth, and precision needed to achieve flawless, professional results—every time.

Specifications

  • Sold individually in 2 ounce bottles, or all together in a money-saving 9-piece master set,
  • Compatible with water, alcohol, lacquer, shellac, and clear finishes.
  • Use directly on bare wood as a primary colorant, or mix into clear topcoats to give you a toner which can subtly adjust your finish's color.
  • Not recommended for surfaces with direct food contact, including cutting boards, utensils, bowls, or butcher block surfaces.

Important: This product is not recommended for items that come into direct contact with food, including cutting boards, utensils, bowls, or similar surfaces. For food-contact projects, use a finish specifically intended for that application. General Finishes separately identifies products such as Butcher Block Oil and Salad Bowl Finish for wood surfaces that contact food, which supports treating TransTint as unsuitable for that use unless sealed with an appropriate food-contact-safe system for the intended application.

Harper ★★★★★

The color match on this was spot-on after just a few drops in my shellac, and the concentrated formula means one little bottle will last me through dozens of projects. I've used it on both cherry and maple and the tone stayed consistent without any blotching, which is exactly what I need for product

Miles ★★★★★

Mixed a small batch of this with denatured alcohol for a touch-up on an antique table—the color matched perfectly and dried without any blotchiness. It's incredibly concentrated, so that tiny bottle will last me through many projects.

Hannah M. ★★★★★

Used only a few drops to tint a batch of shellac and the color stayed perfectly consistent from start to finish. It's incredibly concentrated—a little goes a long way, which makes the price per project very reasonable.
